A routine home visit by state authorities in Paducah, Kentucky turned deadly on Friday morning after a McCracken County man allegedly stabbed a Probation and Parole officer, leading to a fatal officer-involved shooting. The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team has taken over the investigation.
Why it matters
Officer-involved shootings are a sensitive and high-profile issue, especially when they result in a fatality. This incident raises questions about the protocols and training for probation and parole home visits, as well as the use of force policies for law enforcement in Kentucky.
The details
According to the Kentucky State Police preliminary investigation, three officers from the Kentucky Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole arrived at a residence in the 2800 block of Marquees Drive in Paducah around 11:50 AM on Friday, March 27, 2026 to conduct a standard home visit on a supervised individual. The officers then encountered 22-year-old Rayshawn Tucker, who was not the subject of the original home visit, and Tucker allegedly attacked one of the officers with a knife. The wounded officer and a colleague both discharged their agency-issued weapons, striking Tucker. Tucker was transported to Baptist Health Paducah where he was later pronounced deceased. Two of the probation and parole officers were also transported to nearby hospitals and have since been treated and released.
