A multi-county police pursuit in western Kentucky came to an end on Tuesday evening after deputies successfully deflated the tires of a fleeing vehicle using spike strips near the Graves County line. The driver, identified as 78-year-old Harry T. Moody of Paris, Tennessee, was taken into custody and faces several charges including fleeing and evading police and wanton endangerment.
Why it matters
High-speed police chases can pose a serious risk to public safety, which is why law enforcement agencies often use tactics like deploying spike strips to safely end pursuits. This incident highlights the need for vigilance and cooperation between neighboring law enforcement agencies to apprehend suspects who flee across county lines.
The details
The chase began when the Henry County Sheriff's Office contacted Calloway County E-911 to report they were pursuing a vehicle that had crossed into Calloway County near the town of Hazel. Calloway County deputies then took over the chase, which wound through the city of Murray before continuing north on Highway 121. Deputies were able to deploy spike strips just past the Graves County line, deflating the vehicle's front tires and forcing the driver to stop. No serious injuries were reported.
