Sophomore forward Khani Rooths plans to enter his name into the transfer portal, according to a report. Rooths is the second Louisville player to announce their intentions to enter the transfer portal this offseason, following forward Sananda Fru.
Why it matters
Rooths was a highly touted recruit who showed flashes of potential but struggled with consistency during his two seasons at Louisville. His decision to transfer is the latest in a string of player departures for the Cardinals, who had high expectations but underperformed this past season.
The details
The 6-foot-10, 215-pound reserve wing showed flashes of top-end potential, cracking double figures scoring eight times and even logging three double-doubles. However, Rooths struggled all season long with finding consistency, having 12 games where he scored two or fewer points and seven games where he didn't score at all. In 31 games and a pair of starts, Rooths averaged 5.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game while playing the seventh-most minutes on the team at 15.9 per game.

What’s next
The 15-day transfer portal window officially opens on April 7, one day after the national championship game. Rooths will have that period to officially enter his name into the portal and begin exploring options for his next collegiate destination.
The takeaway
Rooths' decision to transfer is the latest blow for a Louisville program that had high expectations but underperformed this past season. The Cardinals will need to reload their roster with new talent in the offseason to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.
