Lady Blazers Earn Three Medals at State Indoor Track Meet

The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers finished 17th at the KHSAA Class 1A State Indoor Track and Field Meet, but had three entries reach the medal podium. The 800-meter relay team of Ajae Oatts, Amoree Owen, Palin Hampton, and Kendall Hancock set a new school record with a third-place finish. The same group also set a school record with a fifth-place finish in the 1600-meter relay. Hancock also earned a medal with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, also a school record.

The details

The 800-meter relay team's time of 1:53.04 was just behind the winning time of 1:50.31 by Lexington Christian. In the 1600-meter relay, the Lady Blazers finished fifth with a time of 4:31.79. Hancock's medal-winning time in the 400-meter dash was 1:03.98. Other strong individual performances came from Owen, who was 14th in the 400 meters and 20th in the 55-meter dash, and Oatts, who was 12th in the 200-meter dash and 23rd in the 55-meter dash. Hampton placed 17th in the long jump.
