The Oklahoma Sooners were unable to hold onto a double-digit lead in the first half, as the Texas Longhorns stormed back in the second half to defeat the Sooners 79-69 and hand OU its eighth consecutive loss. The Sooners led by as many as 14 points early but were outscored 49-36 in the second half as Texas shot 75% from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
Why it matters
The loss drops Oklahoma to 11-11 overall and 1-8 in SEC play, leaving them alone at the bottom of the conference standings. The Sooners have now lost eight straight games, with several of those defeats coming after they had built late leads only to see them slip away. This continued struggles raise questions about the direction of the program and the ability of the team to turn things around this season.
The details
Oklahoma raced out to a 23-9 lead early, but Texas chipped away at the deficit and trailed by just 33-30 at halftime. In the second half, the Longhorns caught fire, shooting 75% from the field and outscoring the Sooners 49-36 to pull away for the 79-69 victory. Five different Oklahoma players made at least one 3-pointer, led by Nijel Pack's 3-of-8 shooting from deep, but the Sooners' 32.1% shooting from beyond the arc was not enough to overcome Texas' hot second-half performance.

What’s next
Oklahoma will look to end its losing streak when it faces Kentucky on the road on Wednesday, followed by a matchup against Vanderbilt on Saturday.
The takeaway
Oklahoma's inability to hold onto late leads has become a recurring theme during its eight-game losing streak, raising concerns about the team's ability to finish games and the overall direction of the program. The Sooners now find themselves alone at the bottom of the SEC standings and will need to quickly turn things around to salvage their season.
