Harlan County's girls basketball team fell to Leslie County 56-43 in their regular-season finale, despite holding the Lady Eagles to just 35% shooting. The Lady Bears raced out to a 7-0 lead but struggled to find a rhythm offensively the rest of the way, hitting just 16 of 51 shots. Leslie County, led by 17 points from senior forward Lexi Wilson, rallied from an early deficit to take a 29-25 halftime lead and slowly pulled away in the second half.
Why it matters

The details

Leslie County senior guard Taylor Couch chipped in 12 points to go with Wilson's 17. The Lady Eagles were able to take advantage of Harlan County's foul trouble, getting to the free-throw line 20 times and converting 18 of those attempts.

What they’re saying
“We knew Leslie County had a good team. At times we looked pretty good and at times we struggled. I was proud of my kids though. We were in major foul trouble the entire game. It's hard to get into a rhythm when the whistle is being blowed on one end the whole time. I'm not making excuses. It's good for us to come over here and play a good team to get us ready for next week.”

The takeaway
This game highlighted the challenges Harlan County faced in trying to contain Leslie County's experienced, senior-led lineup. While the loss drops the Lady Bears to 13-13, the tough test will help prepare them for the upcoming district tournament as they look to make a postseason run.
