Taylor founded Caneyville Contractors and operated several other local businesses over his decades-long career, including Joe Taylor and Sons Body Shop and Caneyville Quick Stop. He was also a member of Barnett's Lick Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason, and a Shriner.
