According to a report from Corvette Blogger, Chevrolet could be dropping the current E-Ray from the Corvette lineup and replacing it with two distinct models: a conventional internal-combustion Grand Sport, and an all-wheel drive E-Ray successor called the Grand Sport X. The alleged Grand Sport X would share a naming convention with the all-wheel-drive ZR1, and is rumored to have around 720 horsepower - a big jump from the 655-hp output of the current E-Ray.

Why it matters

The Corvette lineup has been expanding with a wide range of mid-engined models, and the addition of the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X trims would further broaden the options for Corvette buyers. The increased power and all-wheel drive capabilities of the Grand Sport X could make it an appealing choice for performance enthusiasts.

The details

The regular Grand Sport is expected to slot below the Z06 and above the base Stingray, and may feature a new 6.7-liter V-8 engine and a center-exit exhaust. The Grand Sport X would be an all-wheel drive model with an electrified powertrain, aiming to deliver around 720 horsepower - a significant increase over the current E-Ray.

  • The next generation of mid-level Corvettes is likely to be unveiled sooner rather than later, as these are set to be 2027 models.
