The Chicago Bears are losing veteran safety Jonathan Owens, the husband of Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, to the Indianapolis Colts in free agency. Owens, who has been in the NFL for seven seasons, had one interception, two passes defended, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, 68 total tackles, and one tackle for loss across two seasons with the Bears.
Why it matters
The Bears are losing both of their starting safeties this offseason, with Kevin Byard III joining the New England Patriots and Jaquan Brisker heading to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Owens' departure to the Colts further depletes the Bears' secondary as they look to rebuild their roster.
The details
Owens, a 5-foot-11, 204-pound safety, is leaving Chicago after two seasons with the Bears. In addition to his defensive stats, he also had 504 special teams snaps. Owens is married to Simone Biles, one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, and was granted time off from Bears training camp in 2024 to go to the Olympics and cheer her on.
