Mercedes-Benz is introducing its all-new VLE-Class electric van to the United States market. The VLE is designed for a wide range of uses, from large families to high-end client transport, and features luxury amenities like massage seats and a panoramic infotainment screen. With up to 435 miles of range and rapid charging capabilities, the VLE aims to bring Mercedes' premium brand to the van segment.
Why it matters
The launch of the VLE-Class represents Mercedes' push to expand its van offerings in the lucrative U.S. market, where luxury and comfort features in commercial vehicles are becoming increasingly desirable. As electric vehicles gain mainstream adoption, the VLE provides an upscale alternative to traditional gas-powered vans.
The details
The VLE-Class is built on Mercedes' new Van Architecture platform, featuring an 800-volt electrical system and a 115 kWh battery. Buyers can choose between a single-motor front-wheel-drive setup with 272 hp or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration with 409 hp. Mercedes estimates the VLE can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds and charge at over 300 kW. The van can seat up to 8 passengers and offers a range of seating options, including a "Grand Comfort Seat" with massage functions.
- The VLE-Class is scheduled to arrive in the United States in 2026.
