The chase started around 8:50 p.m. near mile marker 8 on I-57 and continued east on Illinois 146 into Vienna, where the vehicle crashed into a ditch in the Vienna High School parking lot around 9:10 p.m. No injuries were reported.

According to Vienna Police Chief Jim Miller, the pursuit began when the vehicle exited I-57 at U.S. 51 in Dongola and continued east on Illinois 146 into Vienna. The vehicle then turned north onto North 3rd Street, passing Vienna Grade School, before turning into the Vienna High School new lower level parking lot where it crashed into a ditch. Five individuals were initially taken into custody, with the driver, 19-year-old Jaquavius Alstin D'ion Oglesby of Sikeston, Missouri, being arrested on several felony charges. The four additional occupants were later released.
