Amazon is hosting a community meet-and-greet event in Tinley Park, Illinois on March 2 to showcase its Prime Air drone delivery service, which will soon be available to customers in the Chicago south suburbs. The event will feature a static display of the MK30 drone that will be used for deliveries, and Amazon representatives will be on hand to answer questions about the service.

Why it matters

The introduction of drone delivery services in the south suburbs represents a significant technological advancement that could impact local communities. Residents may have questions or concerns about the safety, noise, and privacy implications of drone deliveries, making this event an important opportunity for Amazon to engage with the community.

The details

Amazon announced earlier this month that it will begin using drones to deliver packages to customers in an 8-mile radius around its Markham and Matteson fulfillment centers, including Tinley Park, Midlothian, Homewood, Flossmoor, Dolton, Blue Island, Chicago Heights and Country Club Hills. The drones can carry packages up to 5 pounds and deliver them in under 60 minutes. Customers can select drone delivery as an option in the Amazon app, and the drones will descend to about 13 feet above the ground to safely drop off the package.

  • Amazon announced the drone delivery service expansion earlier this month.
  • The community meet-and-greet event will be held on Monday, March 2 from 3 to 7:30 p.m.
