Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs see strong individual performances ahead of Illinois Top Times Championships

The Staunton High School track team traveled to Mt. Zion's fieldhouse on Saturday, March 21, for a final qualifier ahead of the Illinois Top Times Championships on March 27-28 at Illinois Wesleyan. The Bulldogs had two top ten finishes, including Braylen Brown's third-longest jump in program history, while the Lady Bulldogs were led by Abbie Tanner's eighth-place finish in the triple jump.

The Mt. Zion qualifier provided the Staunton track teams with a final opportunity to fine-tune their performances and qualify more athletes for the prestigious Illinois Top Times Championships, one of the biggest high school track and field events in the state.

Braylen Brown finished third in the long jump with a mark of 6.57 meters, the second-longest indoor jump and third-longest overall in Staunton history. Evan Tanner placed 11th in the triple jump at 11.76 meters, while the boys' 4x200 relay team of Tanner, Brown, Tyree Taylor, and Blaine Sievers also finished 11th. On the girls' side, Abbie Tanner took eighth in the triple jump at 9.29 meters, Hailey Borgic set a new personal best of 2.05 meters in the pole vault for 11th place, and the 4x200 relay team of Tanner, Borgic, Avery Coalson, and Oliva Matesa finished 16th.
