Staunton Elementary School will be conducting annual preschool screenings for the 2026-2027 school year on April 7, 8, 9, and 10. The free screenings are open to all preschool children who will not be eligible for kindergarten in the fall and will be three years old by September 1, 2026. The screenings will assess children's fine and gross motor skills, concepts, communication, vision, and hearing, and parents will be informed of their child's performance immediately following the screening.

Why it matters

The screenings are intended to help parents determine if their child will be ready for kindergarten and able to make the most of future school experiences. Preschool services in the district are contingent on children participating in the screening and providing proof of income.

The details

To be eligible for any preschool services, children must participate in the screening and provide proof of income such as tax forms, pay stubs, WIC or SNAP benefits, W-2s, or a verification letter from an employer. Preschool for All Children (3-5) programs are being funded on a competitive basis, and Staunton CUSD #6 will conduct the screenings in anticipation of funding their proposal by the Illinois State Board of Education.
