The Natural Land Institute (NLI) in Rockford, Illinois is celebrating Black History Month by hosting nationally known birder, educator, and author Dexter Patterson for a meet-and-greet, book signing, and program featuring his recently published field guide "Birds of the Great Lakes." The free family-friendly event will include information tables, children's activities, and Patterson's engaging presentation on the healing power of nature and inviting more people, especially those underrepresented in outdoor spaces, to discover the joy of birding.

The details
The event will be held at the RPL Nordlof Center in downtown Rockford on February 18th. The lobby will open at 4pm with information tables, book sales and signing, and children's bird-themed activities. Patterson's program will begin at 5:30pm in the Sullivan Theatre. A VIP ticket option is available for $50, which includes a private reception with the author, reserved seating, and a copy of his book.
