The Mount Prospect Village Board has approved a 10-year contract extension with Republic Services for solid waste, recycling, and yard waste collection services for single-family homes, multi-family properties, and businesses throughout the village. The residential rate will increase slightly from $12.95 to $13.31 per household per month, with future adjustments tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and projected annual increases between 2.5%-3.5%.
Why it matters
Even with the small rate increases, Mount Prospect's residential waste services rates remain among the lowest in the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) region, where the average monthly rate is $18.90. The contract extension ensures continued comprehensive waste services for residents and businesses while keeping costs competitive.
The details
Under the new 10-year agreement, Republic Services will continue to provide weekly refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection, unlimited bulk and brush pickup, automated carts with free exchanges, holiday tree collection, and special collections for single-family homes. The contract also covers approximately 8,865 multi-family units and about 725 commercial accounts, with multi-family and commercial service rates adjusting annually based on CPI. Some common commercial service configurations are expected to see double-digit savings under the new rate structure.
- The new contract takes effect when the current agreement expires later this year.
- The new contract runs from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2037.
