The Galesburg City Council is set to vote on a 10-year license agreement with Flix North America, Inc. to bring FlixBus intercity bus service to the city. If approved, FlixBus would offer two stops per day in Galesburg with direct connections to major hubs like Chicago, Denver, and New York City, as well as regional destinations like Des Moines, Indianapolis, and Peoria.

Why it matters

Reliable intercity transportation is crucial for economic development and quality of life, supporting workforce accessibility and making the community more competitive in attracting and retaining residents and businesses. The arrival of FlixBus, alongside existing service from Jefferson Lines, helps restore Galesburg's place as a stop on the regional and national bus network.

The details

Under the proposed agreement, Flix North America would pay the city $300 per month in the first year to use the common areas of the city-owned Amtrak depot, with a 3% annual increase. The city retains full control and management of the depot and can revoke the license with 60 days' notice. The city has also identified a dedicated transit transfer facility across the street from the depot as a long-term priority to improve operational efficiency and intermodal coordination.

  • The Galesburg City Council is scheduled to vote on the license agreement on Monday, April 6, 2026.
  • If approved, FlixBus says it wants to launch service as soon as possible after the council vote.
