The Galesburg High School baseball team is gearing up for an exciting 2026 season, with a new turf field that has been a "game changer" allowing them to practice more outdoors, a road trip to Tennessee to face tough out-of-state competition, and nine returning players from last year's squad.

Why it matters

The new turf field has transformed the team's practice capabilities, while the Tennessee road trip will help prepare the Streaks for conference play and a postseason run. With nine starters back, Galesburg has high hopes of building on last season's success.

The details

The Streaks will open their season with four home games on March 20-21, including matchups against Sherrard, East Peoria, Rockridge, and Macomb. The following week, the team will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Irish Royal Classic, facing Knoxville Catholic, Providence Academy, Greeneville High School, and Knoxville Central High School. The out-of-state competition is designed to get the players ready for the rigors of the Western Big 6 Conference schedule and the postseason.

  • The Streaks' season opener is on Friday, March 20 with games against Sherrard (1 p.m.) and East Peoria (7 p.m.).
  • On Saturday, March 21, Galesburg will host Rockridge (10 a.m.) and Macomb (6 p.m.).
  • The following week, the team will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee from March 27-28 to compete in the Irish Royal Classic.

What they’re saying

“It has been a game changer! I spoke at the last board meeting, thanking everyone that was involved in the process because it has had a tremendous impact. We have been able to get outside more than we have in the past. When we are stuck inside, we have a space that we don't have to jockey for time, and we as a coaching staff don't have to spend hours and days prepping and maintaining our field.”
