The Galesburg High School wrestling program is sending 9 wrestlers to the IHSA Sectional competition this weekend, with 4 females heading to DeKalb and 5 males going to Geneseo. All 9 wrestlers qualified by placing in the top 3 at their respective Regional tournaments.
Why it matters
Qualifying for the Sectional tournament is a major milestone for these young wrestlers, as only the top 4 finishers in each weight class at Sectionals will advance to the prestigious IHSA State tournament. This is a chance for the Streaks to showcase their hard work and talent on a bigger stage.
The details
At the Sectional tournaments, each weight class will feature 12 wrestlers, with the top 4 finishers earning a spot at State. Wrestlers who won their Regional will get a first-round bye, while those who placed 2nd will face a 3rd-place Regional finisher in the opening round.
- The girls Sectional will take place in DeKalb on February 14, 2026.
- The boys Sectional will be held in Geneseo on February 14, 2026.

— Dai'Driana Willford, Senior, 130 pounds (Instagram)
“The best advice for me has always been the simplest advice that I've gotten from my Coaches, 'Give it everything!' When I step on the mat I'm always prepared to give more than I ever thought I could.”
— Vivian Aldus, Senior, 140 pounds (wgil.com)
“The best advice that I've gotten from my coaches is to have pride in my wrestling and to get a fast start and get to my attack and you gotta believe you the baddest dude in the gym.”
— Mason Taylor, Senior, 175 pounds (wgil.com)
What’s next
The top 4 finishers in each weight class at the Sectional tournaments will advance to the IHSA State Championships, which will be held on February 20-22, 2026.
The takeaway
These 9 Galesburg High wrestlers have worked hard all season to reach this point, and their focus, determination, and belief in themselves will be key as they look to punch their tickets to the State tournament and compete against the best wrestlers in Illinois.
