Two suspects were arrested for separate DUI crashes that injured multiple people, including an Illinois State Police trooper. In one incident, a trooper was struck by a vehicle during an investigation and suffered serious injuries. In the other, a rollover crash caused life-threatening injuries to a passenger. Both drivers were charged with aggravated DUI.

Why it matters

These incidents highlight the ongoing dangers of impaired driving and the risks it poses to both law enforcement and the general public. The charges of aggravated DUI suggest the drivers exhibited particularly reckless behavior that resulted in severe consequences.

The details

On March 30, a trooper was patrolling in Chicago when the Volkswagen he was investigating struck his vehicle at an intersection. The trooper was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The Volkswagen driver, Nadalie Ortner, 38, of Burbank, Ill., was also hospitalized and later charged with aggravated DUI and driving on a suspended license. On April 4, troopers responded to a crash on I-94 northbound near 76th Street, where a Dodge truck allegedly hit a Nissan sedan, causing it to roll over. A passenger from the Nissan was ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries. The Dodge driver, Adrian Granados-Garcia, 21, of Chicago, was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm.
