The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is extending and renaming its no. 10 bus route to service the new Obama Presidential Center when it opens in June. The route will be called the Obama Presidential Center/Museum of Science & Industry Express and will run express between downtown and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry before continuing south to the Obama Presidential Center.

Why it matters

The extension of the no. 10 bus route will provide improved public transit access to the Obama Presidential Center, which is expected to become a major tourist attraction in Chicago. The year-round service also helps close a gap in bus coverage between the Museum of Science and Industry and the new presidential library.

The details

Starting on May 23, the no. 10 bus route will be extended south along Stony Island Avenue and other connecting streets to end at the new Obama Presidential Center, located at Stony Island and 63rd Street. Previously, the no. 10 route had been a seasonal service operating only between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but it will now provide year-round transportation to the museum and library complex.

  • The Obama Presidential Center is scheduled to open in June 2026.
  • The extended and renamed no. 10 bus route will begin service on May 23, 2026.
