Construction has been completed on Stead 220, a new mixed-use tower in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood. Developed by Shapack Partners, CRG, and KMW Communities, the 29-story building includes 308 rental apartments, 12,300 square feet of ground-floor retail, and a range of resident amenities.

Why it matters

The completion of Stead 220 adds much-needed new housing and retail to the rapidly evolving West Loop area, which has seen significant development in recent years. The project's inclusion of affordable units also helps address the city's ongoing need for more attainable housing options.

The details

Designed by architecture firm SOM, the tower rises 314 feet tall and features a striking façade of dark grey metal projections and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows. The residential units are situated atop a three-story podium, which includes a fourth-floor indoor and outdoor amenity space for residents. The podium itself is divided into two masses, with one side replicating the tower's gridded glass and metal aesthetic and the other wrapped in black brick. Interior design by Gensler incorporates rich textures, warm tones, and hospitality-inspired elements to create an inviting ambiance for residents.
