Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd. (GMG) has received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to import and sell its THERMAL-XR graphene-based coating system in the United States. The EPA has issued a consent order allowing GMG, together with its exclusive North American distributor Nu-Calgon, to commence commercial sales of THERMAL-XR products for industrial use in the U.S. HVAC-R market.
Why it matters
The EPA approval is a significant milestone for GMG as it allows the company to tap into the large U.S. HVAC-R coating market, which it estimates to be over $28.4 billion. The THERMAL-XR coating system is designed to improve the efficiency and performance of HVAC-R equipment by enhancing heat transfer and reducing energy consumption.
The details
Under the EPA consent order, GMG is authorized to export, distribute, sell, use and dispose of the THERMAL-XR graphene-based coating system in the United States. GMG supplies the THERMAL-XR product to its exclusive North American distributor, Nu-Calgon, which markets and sells it as "Nu-Calgon CoolWorx® powered by GMG® Graphene". The first shipment of THERMAL-XR will now be sent to Nu-Calgon for distribution across North America.
- GMG acquired the THERMAL-XR manufacturing intellectual property and brand rights in September 2022.
- The University of Queensland verified improved heat transfer with THERMAL-XR in December 2022.
- GMG received regulatory approval from the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) in February 2023.
- GMG signed a distribution agreement with Nu-Calgon for North America in July 2023.
- The U.S. EPA has now approved the import and sale of THERMAL-XR in the United States in March 2026.
