AHF Celebrates International Condom Day with 'Just Use It!' Campaign

Worldwide commemorations across nearly 50 AHF country teams combine fun, creativity, and education to promote condoms as essential for HIV and STI prevention.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is celebrating International Condom Day (ICD) on February 13 with the message 'Just Use It!' to highlight condoms as one of the most powerful and cost-effective tools in HIV and STI prevention. AHF will host events across nearly 50 countries, including free condom distribution, to reinforce that protecting sexual health should be accessible, stigma-free, and empowering for everyone.

Why it matters

The surge in STI rates worldwide, particularly syphilis, is a result of diminishing global funding and lack of prioritization for condom distribution and education. Sustaining HIV prevention and reversing rising STIs requires political will, sustained investment, and a renewed commitment to ensure condoms are free or affordable and widely available.

The details

AHF launched International Condom Day in 2009 to celebrate condoms as the world's best option for preventing HIV, other STIs, and unplanned pregnancies. This year's celebrations will combine fun, creativity, and education with free condom distribution. AHF has also toured a free burlesque show as part of its ICD celebrations, which will make stops in New York City, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Columbus in February.

  • International Condom Day is celebrated annually on February 13.
  • AHF's 'Ohh Mamma!' burlesque show will tour to New York City on February 7, Washington D.C. on February 13 and 14, Chicago on February 20 and 21, and Columbus on February 28.

What they’re saying

“Condoms still work! We have the proven formula to stop HIV/AIDS after 40 years: Get tested. Get treated. Use Condoms — it's as basic as that. We can't stop HIV/ AIDS without condoms. The continued spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections is not a failure of science—it's a failure of leadership and commitment to prevention.”

— Terri Ford, AHF Chief of Global Advocacy & Policy (businesswire.com)

“Condoms are effective, affordable, and proven, but too often they are sidelined by stigma, underinvestment, and policy choices that limit access. Condoms must be treated as an essential public health good, backed by sustained funding, education, and promotion. It does not make any sense not to champion the free distribution of condoms. They are cost-effective. They work. Let's all make it happen to save lives!”

What’s next

AHF will continue its International Condom Day celebrations with the 'Ohh Mamma!' burlesque show touring to additional cities in the coming weeks.

The takeaway

Condoms remain one of the most powerful and cost-effective tools in the fight against HIV, STIs, and unplanned pregnancies, but they require sustained funding, education, and promotion to ensure they are accessible and destigmatized for those who need them most.
