The upcoming closure and construction on Nez Perce Drive at the University of Idaho aims to create a more pedestrian-friendly campus environment.Moscow TodayA section of Nez Perce Drive on the University of Idaho campus will close to through traffic beginning Monday, April 13, as part of a construction project to upgrade utilities and enhance pedestrian safety. The work will include roadway repairs, wider sidewalks, raised crosswalks, and changes to on-street parking designed to slow vehicle traffic.
Why it matters
The closure and construction project are intended to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility on the University of Idaho campus, which has seen increased foot traffic in recent years. The changes aim to slow vehicle speeds and create a more walkable environment for students, faculty, and visitors.
The details
The construction project is funded through the State of Idaho Permanent Building Fund. Beginning April 13, Nez Perce Drive will be fully closed to through traffic from the University House driveway entrance east to the Walenta Path trail and the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. In the segment between Alpha Gamma Rho and Blake Avenue, the north side of the roadway will be closed and on-street parking will be removed, but two-way local access will remain. Starting May 18, the closure will expand, with Nez Perce Drive fully closed to all through traffic from the University House driveway east to Blake Avenue.
- The closure will begin on Monday, April 13, 2026.
- On May 18, 2026, the closure will expand to include the full stretch of Nez Perce Drive from the University House driveway to Blake Avenue.
- Construction is expected to continue into the fall of 2026, though some portions of the road may temporarily reopen for delivery access.
