Multiple southwest Iowa fire departments responded to a field fire on Thursday afternoon in rural Page County near Clarinda. The fire crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control with the assistance of local farmers using tractors and disks to help diminish the spread.

According to Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce, at 3:56 p.m., crews were dispatched to the 1300 block of Lumber Avenue near Clarinda for a reported field fire. When firefighters arrived, they found two separate brush piles burning, with flames extending into a nearby grass area and a harvested corn field. Fire crews were able to make a quick knockdown, bringing the fire under control in a short amount of time.
