The Pella Christian girls soccer team is looking forward to the upcoming season with a larger roster of 36 players, up from 21 last year. Head coach Matt Dowie says the increased depth will benefit the program as they navigate a shortened 8-week season with 15 games, including many varsity-JV doubleheaders.
Why it matters
With a condensed schedule and frequent doubleheader games, having a larger roster will allow Pella Christian to better manage playing time and focus their varsity and JV squads separately, rather than having to rotate all players through both games.
The details
The Pella Christian girls soccer team will open their season on April 3rd with a 1pm home non-conference game against Albia. The Eagles are slated to compete 15 times over the 8-week season, with 5 of those weeks featuring multiple games per week.

- The season will run over 8 weeks, with 15 total games.

What they’re saying
“It feels like there's more games than practices once the season gets started. It's so shrunk in terms of how long the season is. So, it will be really nice to have these numbers. Another aspect is we're going to kind of split JV and varsity for the most part, and so it'll be great to have girls that are focused on varsity and then that's the only minutes they play throughout the week and the season, and not having to kind of run all of the girls for two games every time that we have a game.”

The takeaway
With a condensed 8-week schedule and frequent varsity-JV doubleheaders, the increased roster size of 36 players will allow the Pella Christian girls soccer team to better manage playing time and focus their varsity and JV squads separately, rather than having to rotate all players through both games.
