As the Pella Christian boys track and field team prepares for the upcoming outdoor season, head coach Keith Anderson is focused on building more balance across the lineup. After sending three individuals and three relay teams to the State Meet last year, the Eagles are hoping to expand their representation at Drake Stadium and potentially score more points.
Why it matters
Pella Christian is looking to build on a modest showing at the 2025 State Meet, where they finished with just 3 points. By diversifying their lineup and qualifying more athletes in different events, the Eagles hope to make a bigger impact at the state level this season.
The details
Last spring, Pella Christian was led by standout performances from Brecken Ritzert, Landon Nunnikhoven, Adam Kacmarynski, and Caleb Volk, who all qualified for the State Meet. This year, Coach Anderson wants to see more balance, potentially adding relay teams like the 4x800m and distance medley to their state qualifiers. The goal is to get more events to Des Moines and score points in areas beyond just the sprints.
- The Pella Christian boys track and field team kicks off the outdoor portion of their schedule at the Chariton Early Bird Meet on March 31, 2026.
- The 2026 Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships will be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines in May.

What they’re saying
“I would say last year was more about just getting events to State, with Brecken (Ritzert), Landon (Nunnikhoven), Adam Kacmarynski, and Caleb Volk. This year we've got our sights set a little higher. We've got our sights set on getting more events there, but not just the sprints. Maybe some relays like the 4x800m or the distance medley relay, and then maybe we can score some points that we didn't have on our radar. I think these guys are definitely locked in and I think you're gonna see some great performances throughout the season.”
— Keith Anderson, Head Coach
