The Pella boys wrestling team, missing two key seniors, fell to North Polk 45-36 in their final dual of the season. The Dutch honored five senior wrestlers and other program contributors before the back-and-forth match, but were unable to overcome the absence of Carter Van Kley and Brecken Ritzert.
Why it matters
Pella's wrestling program has a strong tradition, and Senior Night is an important annual event to recognize the contributions of veteran athletes. While the team came up short, the evening was still an opportunity to celebrate the seniors' dedication to the sport.
The details
Pella recorded six match wins, with victories from Carter Schroeder, Hudson Ritzert, Brayden Sundby, Dax Putz, Colby Putz, and Davion Lampkin. However, the team was missing two of their senior wrestlers, Carter Van Kley and Brecken Ritzert, who remain out of the lineup until the district meet in two weeks.
- The dual took place on January 30, 2026.
- Pella will next compete at the Little Hawkeye Conference tournament in Indianola on Saturday.
The players
Carter Van Kley
A senior wrestler for Pella who was out of the lineup for this dual.
Brecken Ritzert
A senior wrestler for Pella who was also out of the lineup for this dual.
Carter Schroeder
A Pella wrestler who won his 106-pound match by fall.
Hudson Ritzert
A Pella wrestler who won his 126-pound match by fall.
Brayden Sundby
A Pella wrestler who won his 132-pound match by fall.
What’s next
The judge in the case will decide on Tuesday whether or not to allow Walker Reed Quinn out on bail.
The takeaway
This case highlights growing concerns in the community about repeat offenders released on bail, raising questions about bail reform, public safety on SF streets, and if any special laws to govern autonomous vehicles in residential and commercial areas.
