The 2026 Norwalk girls track and field team is focused on a 'season of growth' and improvement under head coach Charity Campbell. With a roster of 65 athletes, the majority being sophomores and freshmen, the Warriors will lean on their five seniors and small junior class for leadership as they strive to get 1% better every day and peak at the end of the season.

Why it matters

Norwalk's track and field program is looking to build for the future with a young roster, aiming to develop talent and qualify as many athletes as possible for the state meet by the end of the season.

The details

Coach Campbell says the coaching staff's job is to identify strengths, put together the best possible lineup, and help the team improve at every meet. The Warriors return one individual state qualifier in sophomore jumper Elle Hatlevig, as well as three members from last year's state meet shuttle hurdle relay. Norwalk also has strength in the middle distance and distance events.

  • The outdoor season opens on Tuesday, March 26 at the Simpson College High School Classic.
  • Norwalk will defend its team title at the Warren County Relays on Monday, April 7.
  • The Little Hawkeye Conference Meet is the team's long-term goal, along with qualifying as many girls as possible for the 4A State Meet.

What they’re saying

“We talk about work ethic and that we all want to get one percent better and that we need to worry about ourselves. We need to see what we have, where we can put people together, and then work to improve every meet we go out and see what we can do to make us the strongest team (possible). We definitely preach 'believe in the process' and get that one percent better every day and good things will happen in the end, so we're looking for that to happen at the end of this season.”

— Charity Campbell, Norwalk Head Coach

What’s next

Norwalk will look to build momentum from its season-opening meet at Simpson College and defend its team title at the Warren County Relays on April 7.

The takeaway

Norwalk's young track and field team is embracing a 'season of growth' mentality, focusing on steady improvement throughout the year to develop their talent and qualify as many athletes as possible for the state meet by the end of the season.
