Greene County Development Corporation is inviting the public to an open house for The Jeffersonian, the former middle school building in Jefferson, Iowa that was transformed into 25 new apartment units. The renovation project kicked off in June 2025, and the open house on Friday will allow anyone interested to take a self-guided tour through the updated living spaces.

Why it matters

The Jeffersonian project represents an innovative approach to preserving historic buildings and repurposing them to meet modern housing needs in small towns. By converting the former middle school into apartments, the development corporation is breathing new life into an iconic community landmark while also addressing the shortage of affordable housing options.
