The Iowa City Public Library (ICPL) will be upgrading its Integrated Library System (ILS) from Monday, April 13 through Wednesday, April 15, 2026. This system manages the library's catalog, patron accounts, and borrowing activity. The upgrade will improve account security, strengthen privacy protections, and support enhanced notification options, including SMS text messaging.

Why it matters

The library system migration is a necessary technology upgrade to keep ICPL's systems current and reliable. While most services will continue as usual, some temporary account-related features will be unavailable during the 3-day transition period to ensure a smooth migration.

The details

During the upgrade, patrons will not be able to place or fill requests, get new library cards, or check in borrowed items. However, existing holds on the downtown and bookmobile shelves can still be picked up, and no items will go overdue. After the migration is complete on April 15, patrons will need to reset their passwords the first time they log into their accounts.
