The Monday Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihue, Hawaii proved fruitful for Kauai High School teacher Christina Martiney and her agricultural students. The Kauai County Farm Bureau, along with other community members, presented $1,000 to help 11 of Martiney's FFA students attend the upcoming Hawaii State FFA Convention in Kailua-Kona.
Why it matters
The donation from the Kauai County Farm Bureau and community members will enable more students from Kauai High School's agricultural program to participate in the state FFA convention, where they can compete in events like vegetable judging, floriculture, and agricultural demonstrations. This support helps nurture the next generation of farmers and agricultural leaders on the island.
The details
Originally, 13 Kauai High School FFA students wanted to attend the state convention, but due to the high costs involved, two had to drop out. The $1,000 donation from the Kauai County Farm Bureau, Farm Bureau officers, farmers market staff, and the children of the late Sandi Kato-Klutke will now allow 11 students to participate in the convention's competitive events.
