Rivalry Week! Men's Volleyball To Host BYU In Two-Match Series

The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team, ranked #3 in the nation, is set to host the #6 ranked BYU Cougars in a two-match series at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on February 25th and 27th. Both teams enter the series with impressive nine-match win streaks, promising a highly competitive showdown. The series is officially named the OUTRIGGER Rivalry Series and is presented by OUTRIGGER Resorts and Hotels, who are offering prizes throughout the matches.

Why it matters

The rivalry between Hawai'i and BYU in men's volleyball is a long-standing one, with the Cougars leading the overall series 42-25. However, the series is tightly contested in Honolulu, with a 15-15 tie. Hawai'i has won five of the last six matches dating back to 2019, and the teams last met on February 1, 2025, with UH securing a 3-1 victory.

The details

The Friday, February 27th match will feature a special celebration of the Lunar New Year, with a Lion Dance performance during intermission and portions of the match announced in Mandarin, courtesy of the UH Center for Chinese Studies. Fans are encouraged to wear red to symbolize joy, blessings, and good fortune in honor of the Lunar New Year. The Warriors will also be sporting exclusive Floral Jerseys, which will be auctioned off to support student-athletes.
