Woodstock to Give Away 700 Free Trees for Arbor Day

City honors long-serving employees with tree plantings as part of annual celebration.

Published on Feb. 13, 2026

The City of Woodstock is hosting an Arbor Day event next Friday, February 20, where they will be giving away 700 free tree seedlings to residents. The seedlings include a variety of Red Maple, Flowering Dogwood, Bald Cypress, and Redbud trees. In addition to the free trees, the city will also be honoring long-serving public employees by planting trees in their names.

Why it matters

Arbor Day is an annual observance that encourages people to plant and care for trees. This event allows Woodstock residents to easily obtain free trees to plant, helping to increase the city's tree canopy and improve the local environment. Honoring long-serving city employees also helps recognize the dedication of public servants who have contributed to the community over many years.

The details

Residents can pick up the free tree seedlings at three locations around Woodstock during business hours on February 20: the City Hall Annex, Woodstock Visitor's Center, and the William G. Long Senior Center. Each seedling will come with a fact sheet and digital guide on proper tree care. In addition to the public tree giveaway, the city will hold a special ceremony to plant trees in the names of six city employees who have worked for Woodstock for 20 years.

  • The Arbor Day event will take place on Friday, February 20, 2026.
  • Tree seedlings will be available for pickup from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the City Hall Annex, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Woodstock Visitor's Center, and 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the William G. Long Senior Center.
