A Georgia schoolteacher was killed after police say a 38-year-old man from Guatemala, Oscar Vasquez Lopez, crashed his car into her vehicle as he fled from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Savannah. Vasquez Lopez has been charged with reckless driving, driving without a valid license, failure to obey a traffic control device, and first-degree homicide by vehicle.
Why it matters
This tragic incident highlights the dangers that can arise when law enforcement operations intersect with civilian traffic. It also raises questions about immigration enforcement tactics and their potential impact on public safety.
The details

Vasquez Lopez initially complied, then fled the scene, making a "reckless U-turn" at an intersection, running a red light, and ultimately crashing into the car driven by 52-year-old teacher Linda Davis. Davis was taken to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.
