A crime scene cleaner who visited the property in north Macon, Georgia on Wednesday said he was still trying to contact family members or a property owner to allow him to clean up the home where Bibb County deputies allege a man killed his wife, daughter and pets before dying by suicide. Neighbors in the Lake Wildwood neighborhood said they rarely saw the family who lived there in recent months.
Why it matters
This tragic incident has left the local community shaken, raising questions about the warning signs that may have been missed and the need for greater mental health resources and support. The difficulty in contacting the property owner or victims' relatives also highlights the challenges faced by crime scene cleaners in the aftermath of such events.
The details
According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, deputies were initially at the home on Tuesday morning to evict the family, but then heard gunshots inside the residence. Authorities say 51-year-old Ray Summers allegedly shot and killed his 49-year-old wife Brande, their 21-year-old daughter Haliegh, and the family's dog and cat, before dying by suicide. A crime scene cleaner named Scott Bogulski said he was unable to reach any relatives or the property owner to begin the cleanup process, leaving the bloody and damaged home untouched on Wednesday.
