Two scouts from Troop 270 in Cordele, Georgia recently advanced in rank. Mason Phillips attained the rank of First Class Scout, while Jake Atkins earned the rank of Star Scout. Both scouts shared their experiences and reflections on the challenges and rewards of their scouting journeys.

Mason Phillips, the leader of the Scorpion Patrol, said the hardest part of advancing was passing the swim test, as he hadn't been swimming regularly. Jake Atkins, the troop's quartermaster and a member of the Knight Patrol, also found the 100-yard swim test for First Class to be the biggest challenge. Both scouts shared exciting experiences from their scouting journey, including attending summer camp, participating in camporees, and earning merit badges.
