Clemson football's 2026 spring game on Saturday will attract a number of top recruits, including several 2028 standouts like four-star quarterback Trace Hawkins and three-star running back Michael Martin. Other notable visitors include 2027 running back Carter Wallace and 2026 offensive tackle Reece Wilmes, whose brother Braden is a current Clemson freshman.
Why it matters
The spring game provides Clemson's coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate and connect with prospects from multiple recruiting classes, helping to build momentum ahead of the summer camp season and fall official visits.
The details
In addition to Hawkins and Martin, the 2028 group expected on campus includes Luke Toland, Dominick Sgambellone III, Robbie Dunn, Darias Johnson, Reece Wilmes, Jeremiah McGowan, Brody Lorenzo, Ryan Corrigan, Brenton Miller and Jackson Miller. 2027 visitors include running back Carter Wallace and wide receiver Taurean Rawlins, who already holds offers from Georgia, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Wisconsin.
- Clemson's spring game is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026.
- Trace Hawkins was recently at Tennessee on March 21 and is scheduled to return to Clemson again on April 11.
- Michael Martin will be making his third visit to Clemson in March alone, and also has a Penn State visit coming up.
The players
Trace Hawkins
A four-star 2028 quarterback from Calhoun, Georgia, who is building a strong offer list that includes Clemson, Auburn, Florida, and Indiana.
Michael Martin
A three-star 2028 running back from Greenville who has shown consistent interest in Clemson, also drawing offers from Duke, North Carolina, and Penn State.
Reece Wilmes
A 2028 offensive tackle prospect and the younger brother of current Clemson freshman Braden Wilmes, who already holds offers from Arkansas, Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa State.
Jeremiah McGowan
A three-star 2028 in-state offensive lineman from A.C. Flora High School who has offers from USC, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse.
Carter Wallace
A 2027 running back who Clemson has been selective with at the position, last visiting campus in January shortly after the hiring of new offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
What they’re saying
“Saturday won't carry quite the same recruiting weight as earlier spring events, but it still gives Clemson a valuable opportunity to stay involved with a wide range of targets as momentum builds toward the summer.”
— Alexander Turri, Author
What’s next
Clemson will host a major recruiting weekend in May, the same time as Georgia's official visit for wide receiver Taurean Rawlins, providing another chance to connect with top 2028 prospects.
The takeaway
Clemson is leveraging its annual spring game to maintain relationships with a diverse group of recruits across multiple classes, setting the stage for a busy summer of camps and official visits as the Tigers look to build on their recent recruiting success.
