Bulloch County Schools Superintendent Charles Wilson confirmed that the county's Board of Education has approved bond sales of $50.3 million to fund the construction of a new Southeast Bulloch High School. The new school will be built on Brooklet-Denmark Road near the existing high school and Southeast Bulloch Middle School, with construction expected to begin this summer.
Why it matters
The new high school is part of a broader restructuring plan for Bulloch County schools, which will see the current high school become a middle school, the middle school become a grades 4-5 school, and the three feeder elementary schools become K-3 schools. This is intended to alleviate pressure on the growing student population in the area.
The details
The new high school will be funded through revenue from the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) V, which is being collected from 2023 to 2028. However, the full cost of the project could not be covered by E-SPLOST V alone, so the district also plans to utilize E-SPLOST VI, which will go into effect in October 2028, to complete the construction.
