Augusta Regional Airport is partnering with Emerging Compounds Treatment Technologies to transition its aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles to a new Fluorine-Free Foam (F3), moving away from the use of conventional AFFF firefighting foam that contains harmful PFAS chemicals.
Why it matters
PFAS chemicals from traditional firefighting foams have been found to contaminate soil and groundwater, posing health and environmental risks. By adopting PFAS-free F3 foam, Augusta Regional Airport is taking steps to reduce its environmental impact and join other airports across the country in using safer, more sustainable firefighting methods.
The details
Before this new partnership, Augusta Regional Airport used conventional aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) foam that contained PFAS chemicals. The switch to F3 Foam, which is fluorine-free and more environmentally friendly, is part of the airport's effort to be more responsible in its operations.
