Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) is inviting the community to help choose the name for a new elementary school under construction on Hartzog Road in the Horizon West area. The school, currently referred to as "OCPS Site 126-E-4", is designed to relieve overcrowding at Water Spring Elementary and is set to open in the 2026-2027 school year. OCPS is considering three name options: Winter Garden Elementary, Ovation Elementary, and Flamingo Elementary.
Why it matters
Naming a new school is an important community decision that reflects the local area and values. Giving residents a voice in the process helps build a sense of ownership and pride in the new school.
The details
The three name options being considered are Winter Garden Elementary, named after the nearby city; Ovation Elementary, named after the master-planned community adjacent to the school; and Flamingo Elementary, named after the community center located down the road. OCPS is accepting public feedback on the name options until Thursday, February 13th.
