Humana's healthcare services division CenterWell has completed its acquisition of MaxHealth, a Tampa, Florida-based primary care network focused on adults and seniors. MaxHealth operates 54 primary care clinics, four specialty/ancillary clinics, and 24 affiliated clinics throughout West and South Florida, serving more than 120,000 patients, over 80,000 of whom are in value-based care programs. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it was reported that MaxHealth could have been valued at around $1 billion.

Why it matters

The acquisition expands Humana's footprint in the growing primary care market, particularly among older adult patients. It aligns with Humana's strategy to invest in value-based care models that aim to improve health outcomes and reduce costs. The deal also comes as Humana saw significant growth in its individual Medicare Advantage membership during the latest enrollment period.
