Overnight closure planned for signage installation on the new southbound bridge project.

Jan. 28, 2026 at 8:31pm

Motorists traveling southbound on I-275 toward the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa Bay will encounter an overnight closure starting late Wednesday. Southbound traffic will be required to exit at SR 60 (Exit 39) from 11 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday to allow crews to complete the installation of overhead signage associated with the new southbound I-275 Howard Frankland Bridge project.

Why it matters

The Howard Frankland Bridge is a critical transportation link between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, and this closure will impact commuters and travelers in the Tampa Bay region. Maintaining infrastructure and improving traffic flow on major highways is important for the region's economic and community development.

The details

During the closure, message boards and temporary signage will direct drivers along the posted detour route using Memorial Highway (SR 60), Courtney Campbell Causeway (SR 60), Bayside Bridge (CR 611), and Roosevelt Boulevard (SR 686). Other roadways, including Kennedy Boulevard, Dale Mabry Highway, and Gandy Boulevard, will remain accessible and may be used as alternate routes. Drivers should expect possible traffic congestion and delays and are advised to allow additional travel time.

  • The closure will be in effect from 11 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, through 5 a.m. Thursday, January 29, weather permitting.
