Matt Fitzpatrick won the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida, birdieing the 18th hole from just inside 15 feet to cap off a 3-under 68 and win by one shot over David Lipsky. Fitzpatrick's victory came a week after he finished second at The Players Championship. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau won the LIV Golf South Africa event, saving par on the final hole for a 6-under 65 and then hitting a 3-wood from the rough to set up a birdie in a playoff to beat Jon Rahm.
Why it matters
Fitzpatrick's win at the Valspar Championship continues his strong play, coming just a week after a close call at The Players Championship. DeChambeau's victory in the LIV Golf event further solidifies his standing as one of the top players on the breakaway tour.
The details
Fitzpatrick managed to play bogey-free on the challenging Copperhead course at Innisbrook, where many others struggled. He holed a 30-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole to take the lead, only for Lipsky to make a 7-foot birdie on the 14th to catch him. But Fitzpatrick's final birdie putt on 18 was pure, and he celebrated emphatically. DeChambeau had to get up-and-down for par on the 18th hole to force a playoff with Rahm, then hit a 3-wood from the rough to 12 feet to set up the winning birdie.
- Fitzpatrick's win at the Valspar Championship came one week after he finished second at The Players Championship.
- DeChambeau's victory in LIV Golf South Africa was his second straight win, having won the previous week in Singapore.
