Heru, the company behind the Heru Prime virtual reality headset for vision care pretesting, has unveiled an upgraded system called PretestPro that can run four eye pretests in under 2 minutes. The tests include an eight-point confrontation visual field exam, a near cover test, quantitative pupillometry, and an extraocular motility assessment. PretestPro is designed to provide a more efficient and engaging pretesting experience for patients compared to the previous 5-minute process using multiple devices.
Why it matters
PretestPro represents a significant advancement in vision care pretesting technology, allowing providers to gather a comprehensive set of data points in a fraction of the time compared to traditional manual methods. This could lead to faster and more streamlined patient visits, improved workflow efficiency, and potentially better patient experiences and outcomes.
The details
PretestPro is a patented technology that has been in development for around 15 years at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. The system runs the tests through an interactive and engaging virtual reality experience guided by an animated character named Nora. According to Heru, the previous pretesting process took about 5 minutes using multiple devices, while PretestPro can complete the full suite of tests in around 100 seconds.
- PretestPro will be available for use this summer.
