Montverde Academy's softball team, ranked 3rd nationally, is poised for another championship run in 2026 after falling just short of the state title in 2025. The Eagles return their star pitching duo of senior Nevaeh Williams (committed to Ole Miss) and a veteran lineup, including infielder Audrey Vivino, utility player Colby Reish, and centerfielder Addison Poe (committed to UCF). Head coach Kahley Armstrong believes this year's squad is more tight-knit and playing for each other, not just individual talent.
Why it matters
Montverde Academy has quickly become one of the top high school softball programs in the country, winning the 2024 state championship. After a 27-3 season and falling short in 2025, the Eagles are determined to reclaim the state title and cement their status as a national powerhouse.
The details
Montverde Academy opened the 2026 season with an impressive 4-0 win over defending 3A state champion Clearwater Calvary Christian. The Eagles' pitching tandem of senior Nevaeh Williams and the team's overall depth and chemistry have the squad poised for another championship run. Despite some roster turnover, including the transfer of sophomore La'Breah Sands to IMG Academy, Montverde still has the talent to compete for a state and national title.

What they’re saying
“That's the goal, obviously, is the state championship, and we have the team to do it. I think we're small this year, so we're facing a little bit of adversity with things that have gone on, but I think our team is stronger than it has been before. Just the chip on our shoulder that the girls are playing with, it's just fun to watch. They're fun to be around.”
— Kahley Armstrong, Head Coach, Montverde Academy (Rivals)
“I feel like this team is just so much more tight-knit, and we all are so close, and we're like sisters to each other. So this year, it's not just about talent. It's about just being there for each other like they're like my sisters.”
— Nevaeh Williams (Rivals)
What’s next
The Eagles will look to continue their strong start to the season and make another run at the 3A state championship in Florida.
The takeaway

With their talented roster and renewed team chemistry, the Eagles are poised to reclaim the state championship and cement their status as one of the top high school softball programs in the country.
