Why it matters
This case highlights the challenges of investigating crimes that occur across international borders and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to bring closure to families of missing persons. The FBI's reward offer reflects the seriousness with which they are pursuing this case.
The details
According to the FBI, Knezevic was last seen on surveillance footage entering her apartment building in Madrid at around 1:42 p.m. on February 2, 2024. Later that day, she had a video conference call at 7 p.m. and sent her last text message to friends around 10:01 p.m. At approximately 9:27 p.m., a man believed to be her husband, David Knezevich, was seen on surveillance footage entering the building wearing a motorcycle helmet and reflective vest. The individual spray-painted the only surveillance camera in the lobby and left the building with an object, which authorities believe was Knezevic's body in a rolling suitcase. Knezevich then rented a dark blue 2019 Peugeot 308 with tinted rear windows and drove from Serbia to Spain, stealing multiple license plates to conceal his movements. He traveled back to Serbia through the same countries, during which law enforcement believes he disposed of Knezevic's body. Knezevich later died by suicide during the course of the investigation.
