The Miami Hurricanes have hired Mike Viti as their new tight ends coach, replacing Cody Woodiel who departed to become the co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Ole Miss. Viti comes to Miami after spending the past decade on the coaching staff at Army, most recently as the offensive line coach for the past four seasons.
Why it matters
The tight end position is an important part of the Hurricanes' offense, and Viti's hiring will be crucial in developing the team's seven scholarship tight ends, including some promising young talent. His experience at Army and as the 2019 AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year should help strengthen the Hurricanes' tight end unit.
The details
Viti played football at Army from 2004-07 and served a deployment as a platoon leader in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He has spent the past decade on Army's coaching staff, including the last four seasons as the offensive line coach. Prior to that, he was the Black Knights' fullbacks coach from 2016-2021. Viti was also awarded the Football Writers Association of America's Armed Forces Merit Award in 2019.
- Viti's hiring was announced on March 3, 2026.
- He will replace Cody Woodiel, who held the tight ends coach role for the Hurricanes for the past three seasons before departing for Ole Miss.
The players
Mike Viti
The new tight ends coach for the Miami Hurricanes, coming from a decade-long coaching stint at Army where he was most recently the offensive line coach.
Cody Woodiel
The former tight ends coach for the Miami Hurricanes, who left this offseason to become the co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Ole Miss.
What’s next
With Viti's hiring, Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal still has one more coaching position to fill - a cornerbacks coach to replace Zac Etheridge, who is leaving to join the Arizona Cardinals.
The takeaway
The Miami Hurricanes have made an important addition to their coaching staff, bringing in Mike Viti as the new tight ends coach. Viti's experience and accolades from his time at Army should help strengthen the Hurricanes' tight end unit as the program looks to build on its success under new head coach Mario Cristobal.
