Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) is celebrating National School Counselor's Week, which runs from February 2-6, to recognize the important role that school counselors play in supporting students academically, socially, and in their career planning. The LRHS counseling team shared that they are the "central part of students' lives" and work behind the scenes to make many things happen at the school that often go unnoticed by the broader community.
Why it matters
School counselors are vital members of the education system, providing academic advising, mental health support, and career guidance to students. Recognizing their contributions during National School Counselor's Week helps shine a light on the often unsung work they do to help students succeed.
The details
The LRHS counseling team includes several counselors who collectively stated that their role is to be the person students can come to for any questions, not just academic ones. They shared that during class changes, they are involved in every student's schedule. LRHS Principal Dustin Dahlquist praised the counselors, saying the school would not enjoy its success without their "priceless efforts."

“It is important to recognize us during school counselor week because we are the behind-the-scenes project of everything going on at LRHS. For example, during class change we took part in each and every student's schedule. We make a lot of things happen that people aren't aware of and that's why we are recognized this week.”
